Auckland Council

Auckland Council (Te Kaunihera o Tāmaki Makaurau) is the local government body for the Auckland region, formed in November 2010 when eight former city and district councils merged into a single "supercity" organisation. 

It's a unitary authority, combining the roles of both a regional council and territorial council. Governance is split between the Governing Body (the mayor and 20 ward councillors, who make region-wide decisions) and 21 local boards (elected members who make decisions for their own local areas, like Puketāpapa). 

Auckland Council delivers local services such as water, rubbish collection, parks, libraries, roads, and public transport, and is funded largely through rates.
